Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Manchester City is interested in a young player of Schalke – and Sane also confirmed that he wants to leave.
German winger who played at Euro 2016 has a lot to choose from – reportedly, he has offers from Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Manchester City. So, who exactly is he and how would he fit into the English club?
Born in Germany, son of a former representative of Senegal Souleyman Sane started his youth career as a five-year-old in the German club SG Wattensheid 09 in 2001. He moved to Schalke four years later briefly jumped to Bayer Leverkusen in 2008.
His debut in the Bundesliga was, however in the jersey of Schalke in April 2014 as a substitute from the bench, in 1-3 loss to Stuttgart. Next year he showed himself by scoring in the net of Real Madrid won 4-3 in the Champions League four days and it scored well in the league.
He debuted in the national team of Germany in a friendly match with France before the Euro 2016, which ended as defeat 0:2 for Germany. He played three games for Germany in total. Last season 2015/2016 he scored 8 goals and 6 assists to in 33 matches for Schalke.
In 20 years, he is known for his possession of the ball for strong and confident dribbling. He feels most comfortable on the left wing, but he can also play as a left midfielder or behind the striker. Leroy Sane is left-footed.
Should he come to Manchester City, he would face competition in the form of fixed stars David Silva and Kevin de Bruyne. However, he has a chance to get through Raheem Sterling, Jesus Navas, and Samir Nasri, who did not play their best game last season.
General manager of Schalke Horst Heldt described the young man as “a very talented and versatile attacking player,” and the current coach of Manchester City Guardiola gave him a compliment during the last season on the bench of Bayern Munich with statement “Leroy is a great talent, and I can only congratulate to Germany, on having a talent like him.”
Leroy Sane is still a young player and his best is yet to come. His versatility would be good in the long English season, but it will be very difficult time to adapt in such a competitive environment of Manchester City. Many other players failed before him.
Schalke finished fifth last year in Bundesliga, which means they will not play in this season of Champions League. Leroy has thus before him the decision whether nevertheless wait and get better at Schalke, where he will have enough space, or take the challenge and try to get fixed position of starting eleven of Manchester City.
