The Gunners were booed by their own fans in the first match of the new season in the Premier League after losing 3-4 to Liverpool. As the captain, Per Mertesacker with Gabriel Paulista are injured and Laurent Koscielny is not fit after Euro 2016, Wenger was forced to stand 20-year-old Rob Holding in the starting line-up company together with 21-year-old Calum Chambers.

Wenger refused to provide information on whether the Arsenal agreed with Valencia regarding  transfer of defender Shkodran Mustafi, but according to the latest information, it’s all just about  the transfer amount.

When asked about it Wenger said he does not want to talk about an individual player. The club is reportedly ready to spend money for the right players, as far as it is the right way. When asked if conceiving four goals increased need to sign a new central defender, the french manager said that it was important even before the game.

Arsenal reportedly looking for an experienced central defenders, but the only player who they managed to get was Holding for £ 2,000,000 pounds from Bolton Wanderers who is considered more of a player for the future. The only high-caliber player this summer’s Granit Xhaka, for whom Arsenal paid £ 34 million pounds of Borussia Monchengladbach.

This is in comparison to other English league clubs rather small amount when one considers that clubs tend to overcome the total amount of the transfer market spending of £870 million pounds last year’s summer. 20 teams together so far spent £ 837,480,000 pounds.

Wenger, however, believes that the spending of large amounts in the transfer market for players in the future will have a bad effect.

“There are two markets – one for English clubs and one for others. English clubs can suffocate themselves. They have to pay massive wages, even when the players go out (on loan) they have to pay half their wages. That means over a longer period, the advantage for English clubs will drop,” Wenger said.

The French manager is also frustrated by failed attempts to sign the England representative Jamie Vardy for the attack. His substitute Alexandre Lacazette is reportedly open to transfer. Vardy will stand up against Arsenal this Saturday and Wenger insists on respect his decision to stay in the team of the current champion of the Premier League.

As for the current Arsenal squad, Wenger insists that Serge Gnabry should extend his contract at the club. Arsenal is ready to let Gnabry go only for a loan and only in the case if he plays in the starting line-up. Hertha Berlin showed the interest and hopes to sign the player this week.

Arsenal finished last year on the second place in the Premier League, which was not a bad result, but the fans want more. Many of them would be happy if Wenger left the club and was replaced by someone else. For now, however, it seems that the French remains and fans will have to swallow this decision.
